Becoming California, stories from California Gold Rush History

Priscilla Vanderpas is the president of the Nevada County Historical society. Our class made a Cyberfair presentation at the meeting when she was installed.

The goals of the historical society are to preserve our local history, print historical information, and get new members.

Anyone can join the historical society for a cost of $12.00 per year. With the membership you can visit museums and receive the Historical Society Bulletin four times a year. People can visit the Firehouse Museum in Nevada City and see Chinese and Native American history. There is also the North Star Mining museum with the large Pelton Wheel that is enclosed in the museum, along with other mining equipment. The video museum in Grass Valley is making videos out of old movies and preserving them.

Priscilla is a woman of today that is helping the community by preserving its history. People like Priscilla help us know more about Nevada County history and we thank her for all the help with our project. Our project would have been difficult to complete without her dedication and help.
