Is NC Really a Ghost Town?
You can learn all about Nevada City’s ghosts from tour guide Mark Lyon, who leads Nevada City Ghost Tours on Saturday evenings through October. The walking tours depart from 101 Boulder Street (the corner of Broad, Boulder and Nevada streets) at 7:30 p.m. The adventure is $10 for adults and $5 for young people 12 and under. Ages 5 and under are free. Call 265-6877.

Fourth of July Parade (Grass Valley) and Celebration (Nevada Co. Fairgrounds)
Planning your Fourth of July? You’ll find one of Northern California’s best fireworks shows here in Nevada County. It’s been reported as the best aerial fireworks spectacular in the Sierra foothills. The fun opens at 11 a.m. with a traditional hometown parade through downtown Grass Valley. Then it’s off to the Nevada County Fairgrounds for a daylong community celebration, culminating in the 9:30 p.m. aerial fireworks show. Fairground gates open at 3 p.m. and music begins at 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults; free for ages 12 and under.

The Lion in Winter. At The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, Greg and Karen Leigh Sharp present a rare revival of James Goldman's classic play of cunning, passion, and survival, The Lion in Winter. Renowned director/actor/teacher Darryl Hickman returns to Nevada County to join the production as Guest Director, and the play stars award-winning Nevada County actors Karen Leigh Sharp and Richard Winters. Opening Night July 9th will be a fundraiser to support Project Pink and The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation. The show will run Thursdays, Friday, Saturdays and Sundays through July 25th. 2009 Tahoe ARTour: 31 artists open their studios to the public in this popular juried art event
Two weekends: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, July 10-12 and July 17-19
Come explore the backstreets of the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee art world! The 16th annual Tahoe ARTour offers free, self-guided tours of art studios in the region. This popular juried art event is sponsored by North Tahoe Arts, who will kick off the event with an artist’s reception July 9 from 5-7 pm at their gallery at 380 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City. On July 10-12, and 17-19, Friday through Sunday, 31 artists’ studios in Truckee and North Lake Tahoe will be open to the public from 10am - 5pm. The Tahoe ARTour is free to the public and a great way to see a wide variety of excellent art being created in our region. Way Cool Back to School. Women of Worth is collecting school supplies for children in Nevada County. Supplies will be given by August 19th just in time for the start of the new school year. Some items needed include but not limited to are ne w backpacks, combination locks, folders, pens/ pencils, games for rainy day recess, playground equipment such as small beanbags to toss around, jump ropes, playing card games such as go fish, and monetary contributions and/or gift certificates to department stores for the purchase of new school clothing and/or shoes, and P.E. clothing. Summer Nights 2009-Nevada City’s Annual Celebration. During Summer Nights, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and filled with arts, crafts, classic cars, food, drink and music. Leading Sierra foothills musicians perform on outdoor stages throughout the downtown area. Hours are 6-9 p.m. There is no admission charge.
